    NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks maintained moderately higher readings today after getting a boost from a booming bond market.

    `SCARY' LETTERS DELAY TAX REFUNDS
    In an effort to crack down on tax fraud, the Internal Revenue Service has pumped out 5.8 million form letters demanding taxpayers prove the identity of their dependents -- a process that is delaying refunds for weeks and triggering protests the IRS is issuing ``scary'' letters that target the poor.

    WAR AND REMEMBRANCE -- IN RUSSIA
    MOSCOW (AP) -- Boris Yeltsin and Western leaders today praised the 27 million Soviets who died defeating Nazi Germany as grizzled veterans marched through Red Square in a sea of red battle flags to mark the end of World War II.
